Cyclone

A dance piece with live music derived from motion.

‘Cyclone’ is a contemporary dance piece, for which an interactive music performance system was created. The dance was created and choreographed by theatre studies students from Lancaster University. OSCulator was used to interpret control data from two Nintendo WiiMotes and use it to affect musical parameters on virtual instruments in Ableton Live. This provided the musical performer with a diverse ‘instrument’ which was responsive to movement. This capability is used to provide a musical ‘response’ to the movements of the dancers. The music is performed live with the choreography, and thus varies through differing performances.
